Budapest City Guide | Where To Eat

You might remember that back in May…how is it already July?… we spent an amazing couple of days in Budapest. Not only did we completely fall in love with the city. But we ate some incredible food. And whilst we didn’t manage to photograph it all as we were too busy enjoying it. We couldn’t help but share our suggestions with you in case you too find yourselves exploring this wonderful city.

Best Street Food in Budapest

Karavan is a collection of food vendors who are producing incredible flavours at unbelievably cheap prices, all in one location. From burgers to fried cheese, to a Vegan stall to goulash served in bread bowls. There is something for everyone. Located a couple of doors down from Szimpla Kert, we headed here on our first night to get into the spirit of the city. Our Airbnb host, Anna, told us it gets pretty busy on Friday and Saturday evening so that’s something to bear in mind.

Where to eat in Budapest

Gresham Palace

Four Season Budapest

Gresham Palace Budapest

Gresham Palace, The Four Seasons hotel in Budapest, is an undeniably beautiful building. I booked for Danny and me to go for breakfast at their restaurant one morning as a treat. Definitely worth it! There were so many options but we both opted for the breakfast buffet and were not disappointed. In fact, I’m not sure we needed to eat again til dinner.

Mr Funk

Admittedly we originally stopped here to go to the loo (sorry if that’s too much info). But what I mean is it didn’t look like our kind of place from the outside. But there is an incredible choice of doughnuts here, and freak shakes galore! You should have seen everyone gramming their shake! After walking around for hours exploring, you’ll soon realise that a sweet treat is more than welcome. If you’re passing, we encourage you so stop and grab something sweet.

The Kiosk

Best Burgers in Budapest

Set in a warehouse-style building with an industrial vibe, we really enjoyed the kiosk as a lunch spot. Great for dinner too as it gets a bit livelier in the evenings. Having a Hungarian menu and a more intercontinental menu means there’s a range of choices available. The three different flavoured mini burgers and the pork ragu caught our eye.

Budapest Coffee Shop Fekete

Cake at Fekete in b/udapest

We ate a lot of cake and drank a lot of coffee to find you a place we could call our favourite. Fekete brings strong coffee and cake game as well as interior goals and great lighting. It’s off the beaten track, set back of the road which makes for a great escape. Originally, I was desperate to try their lemon and poppy seed cake as I’d heard great things but unfortunately they were sold out. Luckily the almond cake and the berry custard flan were mouthwateringly delicious. The latte was a lot better than some of the other coffee we drank (including a very disappointing nitro cold brew from another establishment which didn’t make the cut). If you find yourself wanting coffee and a cake… who doesn’t? Then definitely head here.

More Recommendations

Zona – Actually our favourite meal, definitely slightly pricier than your average meal in Budapest but still reasonable compared to Jersey. The food was phenomenal, the waiters were the perfect mix of friendly and funny and on Friday night we were treated to a live jazz pianist performing whilst we dined. Unfortunately, we were too caught up enjoying ourselves to get any photographic evidence of this riverside spot.

Funnel Cake – A baked good traditional to Budapest, you can find it from most street vendors ( not at Caravan though)
