Lazy beach walks are never a bad way to start a morning am I right? Especially when the sun is shining on St. Aubin’s beach. We don’t always head out for breakfast as it’s also one of our favourite meals to eat at home, preferably in bed. But, every once in a while, it’s nice to treat yourself and let someone else prepare you a meal to start your day.
I decided to book brunch at La Belle Gourmande in St Aubin to kick-start the countdown to Danny’s birthday. You’ll know all about it if you follow us here. La Belle Gourmande has been refurbished since I last stopped by (ashamedly some time ago), and neither of us had ever been for brunch.
The menu focuses on simple, seasonal ingredients, paired well to enhance the flavour and ultimately serve up super yummy dishes. Some of the Italian antipasti, artisanal cheeses and beautiful store cupboard essentials can be bought from either downstairs or the deli next door. Perfect if you are looking for the perfect gift for a hostess, or to add into a carefully selected hamper.
One thing I do find hard to find in Jersey is a good avocado on toast. La Belle Gourmande did not disappoint. I was torn when ordering between a few different options, but the slow roast tomatoes and feta combined with avocado won me over. The crunchy dark seeded loaf was the perfect base and the poached egg sealed the deal, I should have possibly added the serrano ham too but I was trying to restrain myself slightly.. ever so slightly.
Danny opted for the scrambled egg on toast with serrano ham, which looked beautiful. The menu is small but well formed. It boasts gluten and dairy free alternatives for dishes at your request, and it was great to be able to book a table so there was no queuing.
I picture a few summer evenings sat outside with a glass of wine in hand and a tapas board to share. Who will join us?
